In June 2015, Humanitarian U partnered with La Roche College to offer online training to participants of the second annual Global Development and Humanitarian Aid Training Program. Read what Charlotte Reed, Assistant Director of Global Engagement, had to say about the experience:
“The Global Development and Humanitarian Aid Training Program, which aligns with our mission of engaging minds and embracing the world, provides introductory and professional development level training in humanitarian aid and international development.
This year we hosted participants from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Haiti and Kenya. While our participants’ levels of experience and knowledge in the field varied, all were eager to learn and contribute.
Parallel to the two-week on-site training, we offered an online/on-site option in collaboration with Humanitarian U. International and local participants with less free time were able to take equal part in the first week of the program, through the low-cost and time flexible online option.
On the second week, those who participated in the Humanitarian U option joined the participants who had just completed the on-site Essentials of Humanitarian Practice training. This second part of the program included sessions such as Project Management, Human Rights in Development, Selected Sectors of Humanitarian Intervention, and Ethics and Culture in Humanitarian Aid as well as simulations to enhance hands on learning.
The Humanitarian U participants melded seamlessly with those already on site, and felt equally as prepared. This enthusiastic dynamic created a wonderful learning environment as well as a network of individuals that will continue to benefit all involved far beyond the end of the training.
La Roche College was proud to work with Humanitarian U, and looks forward to further collaboration.”
